Understanding the EYFS
At Mi Nurseries, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the UK’s statutory framework for children from birth to five years. While EYFS provides the foundation, we see it as the starting point of each child’s unique learning journey. Our approach enriches the framework with creativity, curiosity, and hands-on experiences. Our practitioners are committed to supporting every child across the seven EYFS areas of learning: communication and language, personal, social and emotional development, physical development, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design.
Our Curriculum Aims
- Learning through awe and wonder
- Building vocabulary through stories
- Experience and recall
Through carefully planned environments and purposeful activities, children not only enjoy engaging experiences but also retain knowledge, make connections, and develop confidence in using new vocabulary with adults, peers, and the wider world.
Tailored Learning at Every Stage
- Babies explore through sensory play, rhythm, and rhyme.
- Toddlers grow vocabulary through attention and listening.
- Pre-schoolers prepare for school with independence and confidence.
By combining EYFS with our enriched curriculum, we provide children with the best possible start; where learning is meaningful, memorable, and sets a strong foundation for future success.

Learning Through Play
At Mi Nurseries, we believe that play is the cornerstone of early childhood development. More than just fun, play is a powerful learning tool that helps children make sense of the world. Each day is filled with purposeful, joyful play that inspires children to imagine, explore, create, and solve problems in their own unique ways. From messy play and music to storytelling, construction, and outdoor adventures, our activities engage both mind and body.
Our practitioners plan activities that help children link their learning to the world around them, supporting retention and motivation. Children take part in child-led, adult-led, and continuous provision play, where they are free to choose their own paths. Practitioners step in when needed, guiding and extending learning while promoting independence.
We create environments that spark curiosity and independent thinking, with resources tailored to early maths, literacy, motor skills, and social-emotional growth. Learning at Mi Nurseries is intentional and responsive, blending child-led exploration with adult support, all rooted in the EYFS framework.
By making learning joyful, engaging, and inclusive, we prepare children not just for school but for a future that values creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence. At Mi Nurseries, play is at the heart of how we grow.
Supporting Your Child’s Journey
At Mi Nurseries, we know that every child’s learning journey is deeply personal. That’s why we place strong emphasis on forming nurturing, consistent relationships through our keyworker system. Each child is assigned a dedicated keyworker; a warm, caring adult who takes the time to really understand the child’s needs, interests, and development. This relationship forms the foundation of trust and emotional security, allowing your child to flourish both socially and academically.
Our approach to supporting your child’s journey is grounded in partnership. We actively collaborate with families to ensure that your values, goals, and insights are reflected in your child’s care and learning. We communicate regularly with parents through verbal updates, digital learning journals, and structured parent meetings. These updates don’t just track progress; they celebrate your child’s milestones, spark conversations, and help us shape the learning environment to support their continued growth.
Development isn’t linear, and each child progresses at their own pace. That’s why our practitioners observe and reflect on each child’s strengths and areas of need, using this insight to provide tailored support. Whether your child is developing confidence in social interactions, building early literacy skills, or exploring their physical abilities, we ensure they’re met with the right balance of challenge and encouragement.
We also believe in extending the learning journey beyond the nursery gates. Through home-learning suggestions and regular communication, we encourage families to continue supporting their child’s curiosity and achievements at home. This creates a strong bridge between nursery and home, reinforcing consistency and shared goals.
